64 bit version?

Postby acer on Sat Apr 06, 2013 4:59 pm

Is there any plans for a 64 bit version? I understand that first impression would be that there is no benefit from it being 64 bit.

Running any 32 bit disk intensive application under 64 bit version of Windows 7 (I assume 8 also) never gets the full capability (performance suffers) compared to 64 bit code.

For example, I can copy a large data file in 64 bit windows with windows file copy from Server A to Server B and get an average of 90 Megabytes per second on the transfer.

Doing the same exact copy using Super Flexible File Syncronizer or Syncovery will only achieve 40-50 Megabytes per second, regardless of if the setting for use windows API or however it is described is checked within settings.

I have seen this with other 32 bit windows based tools where the 64 bit version can achieve a higher transfer rate.

Was wondering if and when there would be a 64 bit version.

Yes but I don't know when. I have the tools and I can do it. I hope this year.

A native 64-bit version is now available as a beta release on our web site:

Speed test comparing 64 bit beta to 32 bit v6. 64 bit is much faster. The tests ran below I did multiple times to make sure there was not much variance in results. (there was not)

Note, speed is most likely limited by drives physical capability now for this test I did. I am guessing if I did the test with SSD drives, the network bandwidth would be the limiting factor at that point.

With 7 x64 beta 2: (Copy from one drive on one server to different drive on another server - 1 gigabit network link)

Copied To Right Side: 11 (25.8GB)
Folders Created On Right Side: 1

Average copying time per file : 29.0 s
Copying time for fastest file : 5.8 s
Copying time for slowest file : 123.6 s

Average transfer rate : 84880.2 kB/sec
Transfer rate for slowest file : 82486.7 kB/sec
Transfer rate for fastest file : 85766.7 kB/sec

With 6 32 bit version: (Copy from one drive on one server to different drive on another server - 1 gigabit network link - same servers and same files as 64 bit test)

Copied To Right Side: 11 (25.8GB)
Folders Created On Right Side: 1

Average copying time per file : 38.0 s
Copying time for fastest file : 8.1 s
Copying time for slowest file : 166.0 s

Average transfer rate : 64858.1 kB/sec
Transfer rate for slowest file : 59456.9 kB/sec
Transfer rate for fastest file : 67821.1 kB/sec
