automatic sync resume of uploading files, is it possible?

Postby ranjan on Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:55 am

(I am not sure about the question hence request the moderator to give this thread a suitable title)
I will soon be setting up a remote location office which will be sending big zip files daily over 1gb.

Now what I want is a ftp client with automatic resume which can monitor file size changes on server?
I have been testing ws_ftp & as of now I have tested the following.

The remote office starts uploading to linux server (shared hosting) within 10 mins I start downloading with ws_ftp, since the file is not yet complete on the server hence its partly downloaded eg: 200mb, then I refresh remote directory & again give command to download the same file & ws_ftp ask me to over write or resume file, I select resume & another 300mb data is downloaded.

This way within 10 mins time lag I can start downloading with resuming the file over & over again & download the 1gb file almost the same time saving downloading time, otherwise I will have to wait till 1gb file upload is completed on the server (over 4 hrs)

The issue I face with this method is that I have to manually resume over & over again, ws_FTP also has inbuilt sync utility I tried doing a download job with that but it does not offer resume in sync mode instead it start downloading the same file from the beginning over & over again, thus downloading 2-3gb of data for 1gb file.

I spoke to a webmaster & he told me to look for SFFS, when I looked at the features I was sure that this utility can do what I want automatically once I make a schedule, but I failed may be bcoz I am new to this software.

SFFS v5.11 is also downloading the updated file over & over again from the start & not able to resume it as I resume it manually in ws_ftp, hence my question is that can SFFS resume a file download in sync mode automatically or not?

If yes how, what setting do I need for that?

Hello,

yes it is possible to do autmatically. You need to choose some special options.

First, please choose only one copying direction, for example left to right.

Edit the profile in Advanced Mode.

Based on the default settings, go to the tab sheet Files->More and choose:
X Always Append Smaller Destination Files

Then you just need to make sure that the scheduler runs the job continuously. For example, you can set it to run every 10 seconds. This causes the job to run again immediately when it's finished. It will do that as long as the scheduler is running, or within a specified Time Window.
