Back up an iTunes directory

Postby ReallyRandy on Mon Jan 31, 2011 3:39 pm

I frequently back up my data drive to an external drive using smart tracking. I've found that it often wants to copy hundreds of mp3s that have not changed. Maybe iTunes changes the files when they're played?

I want to copy over NEW MP3s but not MP3s that already exist. I only want this to effect MP3s as I still need to backup other changed files.

In this case you need two separate profiles. One would use *.mp3 as Exclusion Mask and the other one as Inclusion Mask, meaning that mp3s are copied by one of the profiles only. Then you can set the mp3 profile to "Never replace any files". This option is under Files->More in the profile.

If you want to run the two profiles with one click, you can chain them by typing RUN PROFILE "Second Profile Name" in the Execute before/after section of profile one. This is on the Job tab sheet.
