backup question

Postby scottieg99 on Mon Dec 30, 2013 12:58 pm

hi guys,

i am using syncovery 6.33 to backup my clients server to my qnap.

i have a standard copy set to go from server->QNAP and it does it daily. I just recently setup versioning which I totally forgot about and now everytime a file is edited (say a 10MB PSD file gets changed) it will keep the 10MB PSD plus it will also keep the 11MB PSD (the edited one). SO after all is said and done it is now 21MB total.

I realize with PSD files the block level copying cant be done so it phyiscally has to keep 2 files.

MY QUESTION: how can I tell syncovery to only keep a weeks worth of changed files and then delete any older ones automatically? I want to have 7 daily backups worth and then on the 8th day it will purge day 1 of the previous backup set.

Thanks

In the File Age/Size tab, under Masks/Filters, you can select files older than X days. Use the "Move Files" sync operation mode. We run this in its own profile.
We use this to move files of that age to a "deletion" directory. The contents of this directory are deleted daily when a .BAT files runs (Job Scheduler). The .BAT contains a simple DOS command - something like:
ECHO Y | DEL "foldername\*.*

There might be a more direct way to do that in Syncovery. If so, I look forward to finding out about it.

The thing about that is, say I have 10 files that are backed up. 1 of those files gets changed and it creates a 2nd version of that file. I don't want the program to move files that are older than X if they havn't been changed, because theres nothing wrong with it. I only want it to move over files that have a second, third, fourth version and only keep the newest copy . is that possible?
