Backup to multiple DVDs

Postby andrejodoin on Fri Jan 08, 2010 11:52 am

Hi,
Is it possible to span backup on multiple DVDs?
For example, I have about 10 GB that I would like to span automatically on 3 DVDs. The files can be zipped or not, I don't mind.
Thanks!

Hello,

when the destination drive is full, the program will show a dialog and allow you to change media. However I will look into this use case in some more detail and let you know which solution is the best. It might be with zipping.

I've already tried the Zip Package method and I'm having some problems. Maybe I don't understand well the configuration...?
As a test, I have selected these options in Zip Package:
Files per package = 100
Start new package after = 100MB
Max file size = 10MB

For testing purpose, I've sent this backup on a second HardDrive instead of DVD burner.

The folder I've selected contains 380 files, and is about 540MB once zipped.
When I run the backup, I was hoping the result would be: 5 Zip files of 100MB, and one of 40MB (for a total of 540MB). But instead, I have only one big 540MB file. isn't it supposed to start a new package after 100MB?

I have the latest Pro Version.
Thanks,
André.

Hello,
unfortunately the ZIP size limiting is currently broken due to some recent speed optimizations. The program doesn't "see" the zip size early enough as to put additional files in a separate file. I'm fixing it now and will let you know when the update is available.

Hello,
version 4.86 is now available and it reinstates the functionality to create split zip files. That way you can create zip parts which fit on a DVD.

Hi,

I must be missing something, because on my XP system, a DVD burner is not seen as an acceptable destination (that is as right or left location).

That's correct, you have to copy to a hard disk and then burn the files manually.
