Exact mirror with delayed delete incomp with versioning?

Postby sfwood on Mon Jun 10, 2013 11:08 pm

Not sure if I can get this to work in Syncovery, but I'd like to mirror a folder from a PC to a NAS share, with the following conditions:
-Real time sync
-Versioning using time stamps, ideally with old versions saved in same folder as current version
-Deletions on the PC propagated to the NAS share but with a delay of some weeks, then the current and all versions deleted
Setting this up as described seems to produce undesirable results--if the backups are stored in a separate folder, when the delayed deletion occurs a time-stamped copy of the file is placed in the folder (eliminating any space-savings that deleting might accomplish); if the versions are saved in the same folder it is a real mess--files start showing up with double and triple time-stamps.
Is there a proper way to do this? Thanks.

Whether deletions are delayed or not should not make any difference.

Maybe you need to make sure that the checkmark to delete older versions is chosen under Files->Deletions.

You mean "Delete older versions permanently" in the profile settings? That is checked.

Well, I have done some testing (without any deletion delay set). What I am seeing is that the "Delete older versions" setting has no impact on what happens. Whether the setting is checked or unchecked and with versioning activated, when a file is deleted on the left (PC), the most recent version remains on the right (NAS) and is renamed with a timestamp. If "Filename encoding" under versioning is checked, then when a file is deleted on the left all versions of the file on the right get deleted as expected, regardless of how "Delete older versions" is set. Not sure whether this is considered expected behavior or no...
