Few questions

Postby godzilla on Sat Oct 06, 2012 4:44 pm

Hello,

I'm on trial at the moment, trying to test everything out. I have noticed a few things I'm not sure about;

1. When renaming a file on source, all the versioning files keep their old name on destination and never get deleted. Bug or feature?

2. How to filter what files get versioning? I don’t want (=can’t) to keep multiple versions of files that are gigabytes in size.

3. If a “deleted” folder (that you can setup in files/deletions/move deleted files into a specified folder) already contains a file named “anyfile.txt” and another file called “anyfile.txt” gets deleted, Syncovery will replace the original file thus deleting a file for good. Bug or feature?

Thanks!

I am looking into 1 and 3 now.

Re 2: the only way is to create separate profiles. You can use the File Masks with opposite Inclusions/Exclusions to make sure that the two profiles complement each other.

About question 1:

Renaming older versions is only done when the option "Zip Each File Individually" is used, and then only when the rename is detected as a "RENAME" action. RENAME actions can be detected when the option to "Detect renamed files" is turned on, and the profile is using Exact Mirror mode or SmartTracking with detection of deleted files. And the file must not have been modified at the same time as renamed.

About question 3:

The original folder hierarchy is recreated in the Deleted folder. So if the second anyfile.txt was deleted from a different subfolder, it is preserved. If it was in the same folder as the first anyfile.txt, then the first deleted file is replaced by the second one in the folder for deleted files.
