Filter by key words in files

Postby rodqmiller on Fri Nov 11, 2011 1:30 pm

I am using Super Flexible File Synchronizer 5.59a

I have a task to search for and copy certain files matching specific criteria. Essentially, I have to search for all files on a sever containing a set of key words. The searches are somewhat complex and I have been able to find them using Windows search which produces thousands of hits. The problem with the Windows search is that the source files are located in hundreds of subfolders on the server and I can select the search results and choose to copy them to another location but it does not retain the original folder structure on the destination. Some of the files that are from multiple folders have the same name but are different versions and pasting them into a single folder does not work without file collisions.

What I am looking for is the capability of syncing one folder structure to a destination folder structure but only syncing or copying files that match the search criteria. I see under Advanced Settings there is a Masks & Filters section but it looks like it only works with filenames, not file contents.Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this or any other software that will?

Yes I have an idea. First, select the whole folder and edit its properties in Windows Explorer and remove the "Archive flag". I think you need to click on the "Advanced..." button and then remove
the checkmark about archiving.

Then go to your search results, select all files and edit the Properties again. For these files, choose the archiving checkmark.

Then in Superflexible, you can go to General Filters and choose "Copy Only Files With Archive Flag"

Under "Folders", uncheck "Create Empty Folders".

Then it should work. Run it manually and take a look at the Sync Preview.
