How to mirror entire bootable drive?

Postby besposito on Sat Dec 04, 2010 8:36 pm

I am trying to create a profile to backup my entire bootdrive to a usb drive attached to my iMac. The goal is to have a bootable copy of my drive so if it fails I can simply boot off the usb drive.

I am able to create the profile when running the wizard, but when I go to run it it begins to build a file list then abruptly quits after a few seconds. When I look at Last Result under Advanced it says "can't access right path". I am running the profile as root.

Should this be possible?
What might I be doing wrong?

I think I solved my own problem. My USB drive was hung for some reason. I restarted the drive and the backup appears to be working now.

Great. Just make sure you have the latest version 5.21, which can make 100% identical bootable copies of Macintosh volumes. Except for some temporary files and other items which should not be copied (you can configure this on the Preferences dialog, last tab sheet: "Global Exclusions").

You can test booting from the USB drive after the copy has been made.

More information on the new version 5 for Mac is available here:
