Miracle Backup

Postby tltabor on Mon Jun 17, 2013 4:11 pm

My backup job is scheduled to run at 1 am. I have no real-time synch enabled. Today I received an email notification that the backup had completed successfully at 1:07.

I was programming between 2 am and 5 am, and later today I inadvertently deleted one of the projects and was not able to undelete it. I checked to Syncovery's log and sure enough the last backup was 1:07.

Then I launched the restore wizard to restore the last backuped version of the project. And there I saw the files changed between 2 and 5 this morning had been backed up to the Syncovery location.

It is a miracle but how can it be? The job wasn't scheduled and doesn't appear in the logs, but the files were most definitely backed up.

Also, why does support@syncovery.com no longer work?

Thank you very much!

Hi Tim,

nice story! I can't tell from here, but in similar cases, customers had another copy of the program running on another machine, or you may have run the job manually, or some other explanation.

The support email works fine here, what did you get? Was your email returned?

Cheers,
Tobias

This will drive me stark, barking mad. Taskman reports only one instance of syncovery running on this machine and none of my other machines are set up to backup/copy/synch/etc to this location. Maybe the NSA could reach it (hi if you're listening) but not the casual superuser.

As for the email, I see the problem - it's support@syncovery.com. - with the terminal dot. I copied too much of the line from http://www.syncovery.com/support/

Wonderful, wonderful, unique product.

Hi,

many thanks!

There must be some explanation. Maybe you can send me the last log file that you have? Then I can check your settings.

Normally logs are created in a reliable way every time, if the program has write permissions to the folder.

Cheers,
