Sync Problems via FTP connection

Postby waynez777 on Sun Nov 28, 2010 10:22 pm

Hi there,

I am testing SFFS as my major backup solution but a few questions need your help.

The scenario is, I have 3 computers with Win7 preloaded. "A" is working as a personal server and can be accessed 7x24 located at home with Internet connection and solid URL for http and ftp service. "B" is my home PC. "C" is my laptop which is usually used at office.

When I sychronize my file with SFFS between Machine A and B via local network shared folder, It's fine. Now I am trying sychronize between Machine C and B via FTP, two questions need to be solved.

1. There is a proxy server used by my company. I have to use "HTTP/1.1 CONNECT method" with IP address and port provided to operate my FTP client, but it's working fine. The SFFS profile has the proxy settings also, but after trying all of those proxy types I still can NOT connect to my FTP server. IS there any method for me to connect my FTP server as "HTTP/1.1 CONNECT method" in SFFS?

2. I went to a Internet cafe downstairs where is free Internet access without proxy limit. My FTP is connected very well. So I create a profile then choose the dir at FTP as my destination folder but it's empty! No file no subdir can be found which is acutally be there. I can force SFFS copy to that dir anyway but it will copy the entire file list from my laptop to Machine B everytime I synchronize them. Chinese characters were used as the folder and file name I wanna mirror. Is that the root cause? SFFS can support Chinese filename via FTP or not?

Thanks!

Hello,

that Proxy type is not supported, unfortunately.

Chinese characters are no problem. Please select Unicode on the second tab sheet of the Internet/FTP dialog. If the listing is still empty, please choose the FTP Listing Command LIST rather than Automatic. Also make sure you have the latest version 5.20c.

Thanks for the reply but I'm very disappointed about the proxy thing.

I am not very familiar about the tech terms but I have to fill 192.168.0.20 (for instance) in IE proxy setting field and 8080 as the port it used. Is that "http/1.1 CONNECT"? Do you know any other method I can use to connect to my FTP server which can be supported by SFFS?

The easiest solution would be to use WebDAV instead of FTP. You can enable WebDAV in Windows 7 via the IIS configuration.
