Select folders from multiple drives

Hi,

This is more a feature request than a support question.

Could you please add the ability to select folders from multiple drives per backup profile ? This has to do with keeping a consistent "Point in time snapshot" with VSS when a server has data / databases spread across multiple drives.

At the moment, I can only select folders from one drive at a time per profile. If there is a way to select folders from multiple drives per profile with the current version, please let me know how.

This will not be implemented any time soon.

I think the snapshots will be even more consistent if you schedule a separate job for each drive at the same time. Then these will be launched almost simultaneously and each will create the VSS snapshot in parallel.

You can specify if jobs should run in parallel or not on the Scheduler tab sheet when you click on the Tools and Settings button.

Hi,

I've only just gotten round to doing this on a server and it creates problems when scheduling 2 jobs to run at the same time, both set to create volume shadow copies. These errors are recorded for the second job :-

Starting volume snapshot for E:\ (method: External with default writers)
Error: StartSnapshotSet failed with code 80042316. (method: External with default writers)

Starting volume snapshot for E:\ (method: Internal)
Error: Another snapshot operation is currently in progress. (method: Internal)

If we cannot snapshot every drive at the same time, doesn't that mean that a server with data and files on multiple drives (esp. databases, etc. that may have log files on one drive and databases on another) will not be truly consistent when backed up ?

Snapshot limitations vary depending on the Windows version and configuration, unfortunately I don't have any additional information on this. In general it is absolutely possible to have several snapshots at the same time (especially on newer Windows versions).
