Cloning Mac main disk takes 6-7 hours...

Postby eaglebirdie on Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:12 am

Hi,

Just purchased the software after reading the great reviews. As a backup plan, I've been using Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable clone of my MBP's main disk every 2 days. The initial process took about 4-5 hours but incremental clones take < 1 hour. I have a 500gb disk and clone to an external disk via FW800.

Using SFFS to create the initial clone, the initial building of the file list took over an hour (binary comparisons disabled). The actual cloning took 8 hours. I only have 270gb out of 500gb used.

I then tried to an incremental clone just a test to see how long incremental clones would take. This time, it took hours to generate the file list (enabled caching of file list) till I cancelled it.

Not sur what I'm doing wrong or does it really take this long?

Hi,

you need to disable the caching of the file list. This will slow things down. It can only speed up jobs that run over the Internet.

Hi - turning off caching file list helped indeed. The incremental clone now takes 1+ hours which is acceptable

Thanks...
