ExtremeSync Setup Right?

Postby dschell on Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:52 pm

Hi,
I was wondering if maybe I had the extreme sync service setup right.

I am bidirectionally syncing a laptop with a windows server. I installed the extreme sync service on the server in the hopes of speeding up the syncs. We had been doing them once an hour, but the sync was starting to take about that long, meaning the laptop was almost always expending resources doing the sync.

So I added the folders in question with the control panel on the server. On the laptop, I set the software to know about the remote service. Now the laptop spends most of its time "Waiting for remote listing (2005s)". Like over 1/2 hour. And it seems to do this every time the sync runs. So this doesn't seem to be any faster. It does eventually finish. Is it likely that its just a slow server or more likely I have the superflexible software configured wrong?

We've been using the software for years, but using the extremesync service is new to us.

Thanks for your help,
David.

Hello,

apparently the ExtremeSync Remote Service is not doing its job at all. Most likely, it does not see the incoming listing request files and does not process them. So first you need to check if you see files such as SFFS.listingrequest.$$$.980048727009.$$$ on the server. Second you need to go to Start->Programs->SuperFlexible and open the ExtremeSync Remote Service Control Panel and click on the third tab sheet and specify the folder where these listing request files are coming in. Of course the Remote Service must be started too.

When it's running, you can watch what it does and you should be able to see it process the listings.

Please let me know if questions remain!
