ExtremeVSS ??

Postby major4579 on Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:45 pm

What does the new service ExtremeVSS do for me?

The only reference I can find is this:
"Windows only: adds ExtremeVSS Service which enables any user to take advantage of the Volume Shadowing even if UAC is on. This makes it easier to copy locked files such as Outlook PST files when Outlook is running."

Your reference to UAC seems to imply it's for Vista or Windows 7. I'm running Windows XP, again is there any advantage to it for me?

99% of my copying does not include accessing locked files, so if I disable the service will that affect me?

Thanks,
Marc

Hello Marc,

yes it's mostly for Windows Vista and 7, as well as Server 2008. On Windows XP it is only needed for limited user accounts so they can copy their locked files.

I assume you have an Administrator account so you can disable the service.

Cheers,
Tobias
