Problems with PST files

Postby TTT8888 on Tue Jan 18, 2011 2:31 pm

Hi,

I'm having problems synchonizing Outlook PST files; normal files seem to work fine.
As you know every time Outlook is opened and emails received or sent, the PST file changes.

The problem is that everytime I turn on my PC the program starts creating a new file on the server.
Even when the file completes at 100%, the next time the program starts again from the beginning, instead of doing true delta updating, bit by bit.

As an example, have a look at these files:

Code: Select all
Outlook.pst.d20110116.incomplete 14:16
Outlook.pst.d20110116.incomplete 20:53
Outlook.pst.d20110117.incomplete 11:27
Outlook.pst.d20110117.incomplete 20:09
Outlook.pst.d20110117.incomplete 13:10
Outlook.pst.d20110118.incomplete 19:21

Partial File Updating is on.
I'm really stuck so any help is appreciated.

Many thanks

Apparently it is unable to rename the completed copy to the final name, i.e. it can't remove the .incomplete filename extension. This could be due to a permissions problem with the network share. Have you also checked the "Auto-Resume" option on the "Files" tab sheet? Maybe you can turn that off? Also please delete the "incomplete" files.

Hi and thanks for responding.

Firstly I can confirm that the program is able to delete normal files.
I created a test Word file and then deleted it and it was successfully deleted by the program.

I then deleted all the incomplete files but unfortunately it then started again creating new ones but not finishing them, just creating a new one every time.

I also tried un-checking the Auto Resume option but all that did was to create a new file (not an "incomplete" file) every time from scratch.

Any help appreciated.

OK finally we found the solution. Since the PST file is not the same one when you restart the PC, it
cannot be resumed or updated partially. You have to let the first upload complete by keeping the PC running. Then you can upload daily changes quickly.
