EXCLUDE choices, easier method?

Postby spagnola on Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:40 am

to all

copy, bidirectional

i just want to exclude
d:data_Backup

Two methods
1. do SELECTED files, check the d: drive, then de-select the d:data-backup

2. select ALL, and then in EXCLUSIONS, enter the d:Data-Backup

PROBLEm
NONE, if just doing ONE directory
BUT, suppse there are multiple exclusions, such as LOG directories, etc.
AND, suppose that you want ALL NEW FUTURE directories on LEFT, to go toRIGHT

method 1 -
will NOT (from my experience) automaticaly ADD the NEW directories as selections, on the left.

Method 2
will ADD the new directory, but still a pain to add multiple items to exclusion; spelled wrong, etc.

ANY EASIER way to select EXCLUSIONS, similar to INCLUSIONS?

thanks

No, you have to type them into the Exclusion Masks field. A different GUI might be added in a future version.

can you clarify how to type in a directory exclusion?
I can get fil masks OK (example, *.log)
but I can't get terminology for drectories (and their subdirectories) correct)
thanks

If you type data_Backup, it will exclude all folders named data_Backup regardless of where in the directory tree.

It will also exclude files named data_Backup but since files usually have an extension like .txt, this is rarely a problem.

So usually you don't have to specify the exact location of the folder to exclude. However you can do it. Paths should start with a backslash and be relative to the profile's base folder. For example:

\TopFolder1\SubFolder2

This will exclude SubFolder2 in TopFolder1.

ok, thanks, will give it another try

to further clarify -
if entering

data_backup refers to both files and folders with exact name,

what happens with Data_Backkup.*?
would that refer to a data_backp DIRECTORY, and also any FILE that had Data_Backup as prefix?

If you type the dot . in the name, it is obligatory. So it will not match the folder because the folder does not have a dot.
