About file access and conflict issue

Postby Ivangelion on Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:16 am

Hello,

Could you help solve the problem described below:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being use"

Also, is there a way to deal with conflict files with regard to standard copying?

Thank you in advance.

The program can access locked files with the Volume Shadowing feature, but only if the synchronizer is running on the same machine where the files are stored. If problems remain, please make sure you have the latest version from our web site.

Also, is there a way to deal with conflict files with regard to standard copying?

Can you explain exactly what you mean with conflicts?

1. Do you mean that VSS can only be useful only if server which runs SFFS main program is in the uploading status (transfering files to other machines), not in downloading status (fetching files from other machines)?

2. I continuously got the following notification when using standard copying:

0. CONFLICT: \xxxxxxx\yyyyyyyy.JPG
(Size different, timestamp identical)

Yes. You must install the program on the other machines.

0. CONFLICT: \xxxxxxx\yyyyyyyy.JPG
(Size different, timestamp identical)

You can specify what should happen with such files on the Comparison tab sheet, see the right half of these options.

You mean to set up one same profile on both related machines? Will there be any contention of disks?

No. If you do a two-way sync, you should install it only on one machine and ignore the error "The process cannot access the file because it is being use". If the file is in use, it cannot be copied. Wait until it is no longer in use.

The program will automatically retry such files upon the next run.

Volume Shadowing is normally only appropriate for files such as Outlook PST which are copied only in one direction, for backup purposes.

Can I disable such error notification if the re-copy of the next run is successful? I constantly received such error notification emails, but I've already checked:
"Send email only when an error has occurred"
"No email if re-run is successful"
Failing Jobs Being Retried: Send Email After "10th run and last run only".

Yes, you just need to actually configure the re-runs. This is done on the tab sheet
Access & Retries -> Waiting and Retrying.

You need to choose: "Re-run profile if an error occurs while

X building file list
X running the profile"

And then please specify a maximum number of re-runs. Do not choose "Re-Run Until Success" because that may cause the emails to be sent in cases where you don't want them.

Thank you again for fast reply.

I've noticed there is a setting in Access & Retries tab named "Avoid re-run due to locked files". What does this mean?

It means that the re-run won't happen due to messages like "The process cannot access the file because it is being use". But then you will get an email due to the error.
