Partial File Updating does not work

Postby wolfman1 on Fri Jun 24, 2011 8:05 pm

Hi,

Partial File Updating does not work for me.

I have setup 2 test systems to trial this software.
It all works fine - files are copied across
It appears the "Partial File Updating" feature is not working

Left -> Right

c:\test -> \\192.168.0.21\g\test

I have a file called "Publication1.pub"
If I modify this file and then run the profile after saving the file - the whole file is copied again. The file is 28Mb so it takes a long time across DSL.

There seems to be a problem with your settings. For a first test, I would recommend to create a new profile and only set the copying direction and choose "Use Partial File Updating" and not make any other changes to the default settings. You can also remove the Admin password and send the profile to support@superflexible.com. For example you can export it by right-clicking it on the Profile Overview.

The log file should mention a database at the beginning and at the end. Your profile does not seem to be using the database, thus partial updating can't work.

When you have the settings so that it uses a database, it will have to upload the file completely once and save the MD5 checksums in the database. Then you can change something and after that, Partial File Updating should work.

Ok a few things that may help others.

Make sure the "Services" that run automatically are using an Administrator account to run. You can change the authentication for each service by right clicking on it and selecting the "Properties" and next go to the "Logon" tab.

Also make sure that the folder that is holding the profile database has security settings which allow the account used for running the Services mentioned above has full access to the folder holding the profile database.

Hope this helps someone.
