Remote MD5 checksums not found

Postby Hotzenwalder on Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:22 pm

On the remote server I added 4 folders to watch for checksums (incl subfolders)

E:\Users
E:\Zuid\37
E:\Parkeerschijf
E:\Programs

The polling interval was 30 seconds.

On the destination server I started a synchronization of all those folders with partial updating.
In the destination a large PST file was already present, but the log said 'Not using partial file updating for archive2.pst (remote MD5 checksums not found)' and the whole PST file (1,5GB) was copied from the remote site to the destination server thus taking a very long time to complete.

When I did the first run I noticed that a md5.$$$ file was created on the source server and a complete copy of the PST file was made on the destination server with the word 'partial' in the file name. In the root of the source server there was a file called 'SFFS.checksumrequest.$$$' which among other things contained a line 'Users\Aben\Data\Settings\Exchange\DOC_AND_SET\archive2.pst' (this is the large PST file).

What am I doing wrong here? Were are the checksum files supposed to be stored?

Hi,

the remote service must watch the folder where the checksumrequest file is. It does not have to watch the subfolders. I would turn that off unless you have a lot of different profiles with different paths.

But if your profile's right-hand base path corresponds to E:\ on the server, then the service needs to monitor only E:\

Cheers,
Tobias

The right side is \\servername\e$ but with selected folders, not the whole disk. There is only one profile for that server. If I understand you correctly the remote service should watch the E: disk and no subfolders. I guess it only looks for a file with requests, not for the actual files that have to be copied?

Yes.

Yes.

Please note that the Remote Service does not know which subfolders you selected. So it will process the whole disk. This can be a disadvantage in terms of performance. If that is the case, please create a separate profile for each top level folder on that partition and type these folder paths into the Remote Service Control Panel. The subfolders checkbox should still remain unchecked. It should only be used if you have so many different profiles that use different base paths that it's not reasonable to type them all into the control panel.
