What is the reasoning behind the filename mangling used ?

Postby rossmcm on Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:35 pm

I realise why the filenames are mangled - I just want to know why they are mangled in the particular way they are: i.e.

    hello.txt
becomes:

    hello.d20110114-u085532.txt
I guess "d" is date, and "u" is UTC, but why not just:

    hello.20110114085532.txt
I'm just curious, that's all....

The letters d and u and the slash help make the format unique, i.e. no user is likely to already have such files which could be mistaken as timestamp encoded.
