Timeout when expanding folder on right (FTP)

Postby scotgeek on Tue Feb 15, 2011 5:14 am

Hi there,

I was hoping you could help.

When backing up a site, the software struggles to read the contents of one folder (it has lots of files and folders)... I have tested this by choosing "Selected folders and files" and navigated to the folder. When I get to it and try to expand it doesn't.

This had been working fine but no longer... is there a way to increase the timeout?

Cheers,

Ali

Yes you can increase the timeout on the second tab sheet of the FTP dialog.

Thanks for the reply... I increased it to a high value (200 seconds!) and it still doesn't expand the folder... using CuteFTP I can see the contents of the folder fairly quickly...any other tips?

It turned out that the FTP server truncated the listing to 2000 files. The next update (5.35) will correctly show an error in such a case, rather than considering the folder to be empty. The current version considers it empty because it sees the truncation but then doesn't raise an error. Older versions would not see the truncation and simply be satisfied with the 2000 items listed.

We're using 5.57a and are experiencing a similar problem. Our host limits listings to 10k files. When our Superflex script runs it cannot get the full list and stops with an error. The problem is we need the files to go regardless. Is there any way around this? We can ask the provider to remove the limit (and the truncation) but it comes back everytime they upgrade their software. We're using this to move files for VOD viewing of our content for our web users. We currently have a total of 14k files in that folder; that is nonnegotiable.

You can use the checkmark "Do not scan destination" on the tab sheet "Files" in the profile. There are other ways to make sure existing files aren't re-uploaded. For example, by using the "Archive Flag" filters from the General Filters tab sheet. Or maybe you are using the mode "Move Files To Destination", in which case the destination doesn't really need to be scanned.
