ACL not included on copied folders

Postby supportit on Thu Nov 17, 2011 3:42 pm

Hi,

I am currently trialing v5.58 of sffs and am copying folders from a 10.5 leopard server to a Windows 2008R2 server.
From the Mac I choose the local volume which has the correct ACL permissions and copy to the windows shared drive on the same network.

I am using the default profile settings and am finding the permissions are not copying over to the Windows 2008R2 server.

Can you provide advice please.

Thanks,
Patrick

I think this can only work if you install the Windows version on the Windows server and pull the data, not push it.

The Windows program must be run "As Administrator" and you need to choose the checkmark "Process Security and Shares" on the Special tab sheet. On the dialog that pops up, you will need "Copy Owner/Group/Permissions" as well as "Translate Security IDs Between Computers/Domains".

Hi,

Yes the permissions are copying over after making the changes you outlined and using the Windows version of Super Flexible File Synchroniser.

An issue I am finding now is any mac folder or file with a space at the end of its name is not copying over. Windows has difficulty reading these folder names on a mac so it places a ~ at the end and renames the folder.

Can sffs deal with this or is it a matter of manually removing the spaces on the mac folders as their seems to be a lot of them.

Thanks,
Patrick

SFFS cannot automatically rename these items. Spaces at the end of filenames are not allowed on Windows.

Ok thanks for the confirmation.

I appreciate your help and am enjoying using the software. Very good compared to other softwares I have used to do file copying.
