Feature Request: Do not show Sync Preview if no changes

Postby Kharlos on Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:32 am

Hello,

SFFS is great, but I would have a few suggestions to possibly make it even better.
I hope they can be approved and integrated into the product.

1 - Have an option to only display the "Synchronization Preview" window if there is any changes to synchronize.
Sometimes, when running a profiles group, some profiles do not have any files changes in them to synchronize but the application still waits for me to click the "Start" button.
I know I could run it in an unattended manner, but I want to have a chance to review the changes before approving the synchronization.
However, when the profile does not have any change, it is pointless to show the "Synchronization Preview" dialog box as there is nothing to actually preview/review, so it would be very useful to have an option for it in the profile settings.

2 - Allow to track only some attributes.
SFFS allows to optionally track and synchronize files attributes (hidden, read-only, archive, etc), but it seems to do that for all attributes, and does not allow a granular choice in which to track.
For example, in my case, I would like to only track/replicate Hidden and Read-Only attributes, and a change in the other attributes shouldn't trigger a synchronization of the file's attributes. Right now, it is replicating attributes I don't have any interest in and adds entries in the preview window that I need to review every time.
A great way to achieve this could be to have checkboxes in the profile settings allowing to tick which attributes to track

3 - Attributes columns in the preview window
Having an (optional or not) attributes column in the list in the preview window could be useful to easily see the attributes on both sides.

I hope these suggestions are making sense.
If not, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks.

Re: A few Feature Requests

Hello,

Please can you tell me if these features have been considered?
The first one especially.

I have a group with several profiles synchronizing a dozen of folders as different profiles: some rarely change and I get prompted for each one even though no files have changed.

I don't want to switch to unattended mode completely because I still want a chance to decide/review when there are changes, but when there are none, I think an option to not show the window would be great, because there is nothing to decide if there is no file to synchronize.

Thanks a lot.

When you click on the Gears toolbar button, you will get a menu with "Running Options". There you can choose "Skip Empty Previews".

I will consider the other requests, but unfortunately I have to pick new features from thousands of other requests.

Thanks, it does work when running the software manually and running a profile manually but it doesn't work when running from the command-line with /RUN= or /RUNX=. The Preview dialog is still shown even when there are no changes.

It works with /U or /O but I don't want it to be completely unattended.
I just want the empty dialogs to go away, so an empty profile wouldn't block the queue (I use RUNX= with a group profile and a wildcard) but still be able to review before starting the transfer if there are changes.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I've downloaded the latest Syncovery and I'm still seeing the preview dialog if there are no changes, when I'm running a profile through the RunX command-line commands.

It doesn't seem to honor the "Skip Empty Preview" settings when a profile is run through the RunX command-line parameter.

Could you please consider RunX supporting this in the future version?

Thanks in advance.
