Access Denied copying .DLL files

Postby Charles on Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:45 pm

I have SFFS setup in NT service mode, using an administrator account with Exact Mirror mode and real-time w/delete enabled. I have set the admin credentials on the Jobs -> Network tab as well.

All works fine both adding/deleting files to the left side.. and it syncs to the right side...

EXCEPT when I put .DLL files into the folder to sync, i get Access Denied errors... Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Here is my generated log file:

The access is denied either by the destination machine, by Windows, or by some security software. You need to check your anti-virus or other security software or security settings on the destination device.

Also if the files on the destination already exist, they might be in use and can't be replaced.

1) No anti-virus or other security software on destination box.
2) No the files do not already exists on the destination
3) No, the files are not in use

We have basically two new servers, and we are testing the SFFS. Again, we are using an ADMIN account on the window service, and that account can copy to the other share no problem. When we copy files on one side, we expect to see them synced on the other side. It works fine with all files.. except (so far) .DLL files.

How do we trace out the problem? We are evaluating the software because we want to purchase a Sync software. I really like SFFS, but it has to work, and since it's not, we need to figure out why. Please help?

The problem is definitely not in the software. You need to analyze your systems more closely. The security software that might be preventing this could be on the source machine too. Doesn't have to be on the destination.

When you log in with the same user account that the service uses, and try to copy these files in exactly the same folders manually with Windows Explorer, you should be seeing the same error.

Since the service is running as a local Administrator, this does not mean that it has full rights on the destination side. The destination machine does not care what local rights the user has. You probably need to check the security settings on the destination side.

Maybe you should specify network credentials for the destination on the Job tab sheet using the checkmark "Network Connections". Then you can specify a user account for the destination where you know that the permissions are sufficient.

Currently, the local emadmin account uses those credentials for the destination side that you last used in Windows Explorer. These might not be sufficient.

You could also try running the service as a different user.

Correction: your log doesn't show anything about the network connection because that connection is made before the real-time monitoring starts. To check if your credentials for the network are OK, please stop the scheduler and run the job manually. Then take a look at the log file. It should say that the network connection was made, or it may show some error.
