Deleting files in a folder?

Postby Wolters on Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:45 am

Hi,

Is there anyway to configure SFFS so that it will look into one of my folders and DELETE all files/folders there older than x days??? I guess I can use the "Move files" option and move them to the trash, but this does not delete them does it?

No, but if you want, I can write you a program that will do it. Are you on Windows?

Actually, there are ways to configure a job to do this, although it's not directly an available option in the program. You need to be extremely careful in setting this up and make sure nothing important is deleted.

First you need to create a dummy, empty folder somewhere. Then you set up an Exact Mirror job that mirrors the empty folder to your target folder. Under Filters, choose File Age: older than X days.

Under Safety->Unattended, make sure you enable 100% deletions and remove the Special Safety Checks.

Then try the job manually in attended mode and look at the Sync Preview to make sure the filter works correctly and it only wants to delete the files you want.

To enable these deletions in unattended mode, the following switch needs to be added to the [Main] section of the INI:
UnattendedDeleteAllIsOK_IfDelPercIs100=YES

Then you can give it a schedule and start the scheduler.

Thanks a lot for this creative "workaround"!!! This really helps a lot as I use one script to take a snapshot and create backups in new folders every 15 minutes in order to be able to roll back to several earlier stages, BUT I also needed this ability to automatically delete all those folders EXCEPT for the ones newly created now and then in order not to fill up my hard drive completely...

Maybe this could be a standard feature in some future version of SFFS???
