Deleted files

Postby chrfal on Wed Feb 22, 2012 2:17 am

Hi

We use superflexible as a backup solution, and it works almost perfectly. We´re using Extremesyncservice in the background to synchronize files between a user's computer and our server. However, we have a little problem.

Sometimes, the files that a user has deleted on his computer comes back to his computer when the auto sync runs. Do you know hos this is possible? This happens only occasionally and are often PDF files or PowerPoint files.

If you're doing a backup, it should be a one-way sync. In other words, choose only the copying direction "Left to Right". Then deleted files can never appear back from the backup storage. Choose Exact Mirror mode to have deleted files be removed from the backup too - however please specify a "Folder for Deleted Files" on the tab sheet Files->Deletions.

If you must sync both ways (Left to Right and Right to Left), then the SmartTracking operating mode should be able to detect deletions and handle them appropriately. It will only copy files back if they have been changed on one side at the same time as having been deleted on the other.

We´re syncing both ways, and 99 % of the times deleted files gets deleted on the "ohter side". But in some cases the deleted files keeps coming back. The strange thing is that if I open the scheduler and run one or two manual syncs - then the files gets deleted!?

Under Smart Tracking settings we use these settings

"Deleted files": Delete Permanently
"Conflicting Files": Copy Latest Version

Under Advanced settings "Comparsion"
"When size Is Different": Copy Larger File

Have you come across this problem earlier?

Have you tried the latest version 5.68?

Concerning deletions, please go to Safety->Unattended and make sure that deletions are enabled and that the "Special Safety Checks" are disabled because they can prevent deletions from happening.
