Move Deleted Files Into Folder

Postby ttx336 on Tue Feb 28, 2012 11:10 am

I cannot get this setting setup properly, perhaps I just don't understand what it is supposed to do?

I made a folder in my Amazon S3 "Ydrive" bucket, which is a top level, of course, and named it "Delete". I have tried various paths for the "Delete" such as /Delete, //Ydrive/Delete, S3://Ydrive/Delete, S3://Ydrive/Delete/, you get the idea... I just can't seem to hit upon the right syntax to get it to move all of the deleted files into that folder. Am I on the wrong track here? I thought it would move all of the files marked for deletion into that folder but it keeps giving me error messages about the folder. I am not at home right now so I cannot post the exact error messages, but I believe I saw two different ones depending upon how I setup the syntax, once I didn't get an error message but it also didn't move any deleted files into the folder. I looked on the local HDD to see if perhaps it had created a folder there and moved some file there but did not see one.

I have the Ydrive bucket setup as a mirror so perhaps this won't work?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Gary

The folder should be specified like this: /Delete

To avoid any errors, you also need to specify a folder for the local side (probably the left-hand one). You can type C:\Deleted, for example. This folder will not be used but the program currently needs you to fill out both fields. Maybe that was the problem?

Ydrive is just a name I gave to my Network Attached Storage device, long ago I ran a Linux server here and mapped a network drive as drive "Y"... the LAN has evolved here but the name stuck; we're all familiar with it so when I setup Amazon S3, I named one of the buckets "Ydrive".

Right now SuperFlex is synchronizing so I can't test it but I will later this afternoon. I don't remember if I had a folder on the local side or not, I believe that I did but I will make sure to do that this next time.

If the problem remains, please send a log file so I can see the exact settings and error message. You can post it here or send it to support@superflexible.com

Log files are always written. You can get to the log folder by clicking on the Gears toolbar button.

It's working perfectly now, thanks!

Is it possible to have the /Delete folder in a different bucket? If so, how do I address it?

I've discovered one small issue, as the days go by, it is building a tree of /Delete directories, that is when I looked at it today it looked like this: /Delete/Delete/Delete/SomeDirectoryName/SomeFilesHere If there were no files to delete then each /Delete directory was empty other than the next lower /Delete directory, otherwise the previously deleted files were in there... and ideas?

I assume that it is deleting the /Delete directory when it sees that it is not present in the drive that it is mirroring and putting it into a newly created /Delete directory?? What do you think?

I wonder if simply putting a Delete directory in the drive it is mirroring would take care of it, but that seems like it might get confused as it try to synchronize the two /Delete directories so I am not going to try it just yet.

As I think about it, perhaps this is desirable behavior... I am curious to hear what you say about this...

Thanks in advance, Gary.
