Synchronize iPhoto library?

Postby smulderspj on Sun Mar 21, 2010 4:08 pm

I'm evaluating SFS. For me everything works alright, accept for making a copy of a iPhoto library. As you guess though this is an important file for me. Problem seems to be that SFS treats it as loose files to copy, resulting in a directory instead of a recognised library file. Are there possibilities to do it right? Certain settings I have to use?

Sometimes Finder takes a while to recognize packages. So maybe after a logout/login or reboot it will look fine. However I will also try this on my Macs.

I was curious whether you found a solution. My finder works alright in recognizing iPhoto. It's really SFS that doesn't.

Hello,

processing collections like these as separate files is by design, and it can speed up the copying because only the changed items are copied. So what you see in Superflexible is perfectly OK.

The only question is whether the resulting copy is recognized by Finder or iPhoto or not. Now iPhoto might depend on the library being in a certain location, so that you can't use the copy. I'm not sure - it seems iPhoto is not included in recent Mac OS versions any more?

Please let me know what computer you have, which version of Mac OS X and iPhoto, and the exact paths where you are copying from and to so I can try to produce the same situation here.

By the way, I think a good solution would be making the first copy of your library with Finder. If that works, you can then use Superflexible to regularly update it, which will be faster than making a new complete copy each time.

I discovered how it works. After synchronizing the destination file is still shown as a folder. When I enter and start a library file thats inside the folder by doubleclicking it starts as my iPhoto library. When I quit the program the folder is suddenly shown/recognized as an iPhoto library.

For me it means that I found myself indeed a superflexible synchronizer, compared to all the Mac ones I tested in the last months, and you have another registered user.

Kind regards.
