Use same profiles for V5 to V6 and other questions

Postby RadicalDad on Mon Dec 16, 2013 2:28 am

I have purchased a new computer. Old computer is Windows 7 using version 5.54 of Super Flexible. New computer is Windows 8.1 using just downloaded version 6.42 of Syncovery.

Can I use the same profiles exported from the old machine in the new machine? Since I won't be changing my backup and sync strategy, is there anything I need to change in the old profiles to make them work properly with version 6.42?

For the initial copy from the NAS, is there any advantage (or disadvantage) to simply letting the profiles run to sync all my data (documents, pictures, music, etc.) to the new machine as opposed to doing a drag-and-drop copy using Windows Explorer?

Thanks

Hello,

it depends on which folders your profiles are configured to back up. I believe that most folder locations are the same on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, so that no changes should be necessary.

If your jobs are two-way synchronizations, then they can also copy the data back from the NAS. If they are one-way backup jobs, they won't copy any data back.

When copying data back from the NAS you should be careful not to replace the entire user folder, for example you should not copy all items in C:\Users or even C:\Users\YourName. Only documents in document folders should be copied, not user settings.
