Mobile Drive

Dear All

First of all sorry if this is a real nubie question but need to check i am understanding things correctly.

I am using Supersync to make back ups on a local nas and also on a remote nas and also i need a copy of the working files on a usb HDD.

So the set up is

Master folders/files/documents located on Windows Server running supersync on the server.
Local Nas holding files written by supersynch on the server (no deletions)
Remote Nas holding files written by supersynch running on remote pc (no deletions)

I use supersync to copy in realtime with deletions disabled to the local nas from the server, this means we keep copies of all correspondence which is what i need to do, but allows me to delete project files on the main server when the job is complete and can be 'archived'.

The remote nas is connected to a pc which also copies the files on the windows server in the same way, ie no deletions in real time.

The issues i am struggling with is that i travel a lot and do not always have good access to the internet so i have a usb HDD which i want to both read and write work to and then synch when i get back to he office.

At the moment i am having some issues with folders/files that have been deleted being re-written back to the windows server from the usb drive. I suspect this is because i installed supersync on the usb drive, thinking that if necessary/possible i could synch over the web. in reality i do not need to do this but think this is probably the source of my problems ie. that i have two database files trying to read/write to the same folders.

If i point the supersynch software on my HDD to the version on the server, will this resolve my problems and make sure that i have the same files/folders on the master and usb drive?

Thanks for any support/advice you can give.

I am not completely sure if I understand the whole situation, but here are the general rules that enable Syncovery (or Super Flexible File Synchronizer) to recognize and "ignore" deleted folders. "Ignoring" means that it won't re-copy them and also won't delete them on the other side.

You have to be using the SmartTracking operating mode. This is originally meant for two-way syncs but it can also be used for one-way syncs if you want to ignore deletions. Ignoring deletions is the default behavior, but you should check it by clicking on the Configure button.

SmartTracking creates a separate database for each profile. The important part is that the same pair of storage locations should always be synced using the same profile (or job), running on the same machine. So, just make sure that you always use the same job to synchronize your mobile USB hard drive with the server. Avoid running the program on another machine to sync the same pair of storage locations.

Dear Super

thanks for the response, the issue I have is that when I reconnect my portable drive it keeps rewriting data that has been deleted from the primary source (ie the server).

If I understand your note if I ignore deletions then when I connect my usb drive and run syncovery it wont rewrite the missing files, will it remove them from the usb drive though

You can configure it whichever way you want to.

If the job is a one-way copy, it will not remove anything from the source.

if it is a two-way SmartTracking job, then you can specify what should happen by clicking on the Configure button.
