deleting files with SmartTracking of moved files

Postby xgoosebumpsx on Tue Feb 18, 2014 7:16 am

Dear sir or madam,

I have to realize the following workflow but I can succeed. I was wondering if it was at all possible.

1. Files from folder on \\Server1\clip.dir have to be copied to \\Server2\scanfolder (will be a local folder, software running on destination server)

2. The files run through a processing software and as a result will be moved to either \\Server2\scanfolder\DONE or \\Server2\scanfolder\ERROR, so there will be no clips on \\Server2\scanfolder

3. Syncovery needs to detect that files have been moved on destination side and not copy them again (which works fine)

4. Files will be deleted on \\Server1\clip.dir and as a result should be deleted from \\Server2\scanfolder\DONE or \\Server2\scanfolder\ERROR (this step is not working, deleting files only works when they are not moved to a subfolder)

Is step 4. possible to realize with the SmartTracking feature? If yes, could you please tell me how? Or is the software not build for this?

Thanks a lot.

Kind regards

First I wanted to say, not possible, but I think it is possible!

You need two new jobs in addition to the SmartTracking job that you have.

One will mirror from \\Server1\clip.dir to \\Server2\scanfolder\DONE, and the second one will mirror to \\Server2\scanfolder\ERROR.

These new jobs will never copy any files! Under Files->More, choose
X Never Replace Any Files
X Don't Add Any Files

Instead, choose Exact Mirror Mode which will delete files if they are no longer on the source, but no files will be copied. Under Safety->Unattended Mode, you need to allow deletions to happen in unattended mode.

Try it it attended mode, though, first. Theoretically it should work.

Thanks a lot for the quick help. On a first glance it seems to be working that way. I just didn't think if this because I had in mind that only one profile is allowed per folder - thought I read it somewhere. I will do some long-term testing. ;)

Thx again!!!
