Syncovery Setup for Office 365 OneDrive?

Postby pscanuck on Sun Aug 03, 2014 8:49 pm

Unable to complete Syncovery [6.67d build 243] setup for Office 365 OneDrive.

Syncovery has setting for OneDrive linked to a Microsoft User Account, [i.e. username@outlook.com]

Can setup OneDrive for my Microsoft User Account.
But cannot setup OneDrive for my Office 365 Account, [which includes OneDrive].

Was hoping that by setting up OneDrive for my Microsoft User Account,
would gain some insight into how to setup OneDrive for my Office 365 Account.
But no luck.

Would appreciate feedback on how to configure Syncovery for Office 365 OneDrive.

Thnx

It is not possible. Unfortunately Microsoft uses the term OneDrive for two entirely different things. The Office 365 OneDrive is not supported. We are working on it, but so far it does not work and I do not know when it will be working.

I am assuming you are referring to Office 365 OneDrive for Business, because I am definitely using Office 365 OneDrive "Personal" (with the 1TB plan) and Syncovery works well.

Yes. The normal OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) is fully supported.

It's not the fault of Syncovery, but the OneDrive service throttles uploads aggressively. It's mostly due to unsupported file and folder names. After a certain number of errors the OneDrive service returns error messages with a delay which I am happy to report that Syncovery honors.

But, those errors are pretty serious, again not Syncovery's fault, but certain characters can't be used in folder names on OneDrive even though these folders are on a Windows system being backed up, and a hard limit of 255 character pathnames.

So, if you're planning on using the 1TB (soon to be "unlimited") to back up your files, OneDrive isn't going to work for you.

I'm re-starting my backup using Synthetic Backup feature which should protect from these problems. Hopefully I'll let you know how it goes soon.

The new version 7 no longer attempts to upload files with unsupported names, such as those starting with a dot. It also won't try to upload files larger than 100 MB because third-party apps like Syncovery can't do that.

Synthetic Backup can't help with naming problems. The only way to get around those would be the "ZIP Package" function which puts many files in one zip and give it a generic file name. You could use a separate profile just for the problematic files and use zip packages for those. And specify a max zip size of 95 MB or so.

You can also use "Replace Characters..." on the second tab sheet of the Internet dialog, but I wouldn't really recommend that. For example, you can't replace dots at the start of filenames specifically, you would have to replace all dots, which is not good.

I think I need to implement some smart character replacement logic specifically for OneDrive.

Syncovery 7.03 can now upload files over 100MB to OneDrive. Handling of request throttling by OneDrive still needs to be improved and made smarter, which will happen in the next update.

Just wondering if there's an update for this? Seems like there should be a way to connect via WebDAV if direct Onedrive for Business isn't an option?

WebDAV does not work.

Some customers are having success with a UNC path, please see
http://www.sharepointsearch.ch/map-onedrive-for-business-as-drive/

We are still working on supporting it natively.
