suggested feature - do not contact

Postby lghmed on Mon Dec 22, 2014 5:12 pm

Could a simple selection or checkbox be made that prevents the right hand side from being contacted when there is a one way copy and there is nothing to be done?

The reason this would be useful is that if the right path is an FTP server that is not under my control, I do not wish to log in and contact it at all until there are actual files to send from the left path. Currently there are annoyances where every time the profile is scheduled to check for new files on the left, it logs in and leaves blank zero byte files or time zone check files on the receiving system for no reason, prompting the administrator of the remote system to complain or question the error. I simply wish to prevent all communication to the right path until there is something to actually be done per the settings on the left path.

Hello,
the time zone check files are normally deleted unless the check fails for some reason. You can turn off the time zone check on the second tab sheet of the Internet/FTP dialog. Uncheck Zone : Auto.

I will consider the new feature you asked for. Currently we have a feature called "Continuous sync", which is on the Monitoring/Real-Time tab sheet. With this feature, the program will never log out of the server, saving time. It should be used with a "minimum pause between actions".

I came up with a kind of workaround to stop remote logins by profiles with nothing to be done. I created one scheduled profile that detects a new file and copies it to a temp folder. Use the ++RUN PROFILE job command after this completed to run an unscheduled profile that actually sends the file out to the remote server. Disabling the time zone check also helped with the zero byte files, in this case.

Great solution, I should have suggested that!
