[Solved] Specific Files backup

Postby Ranjit on Sun Dec 20, 2015 5:48 pm

Sir,
I have created a profile, mirror of Temp directory tree. Example :

C:\Test 90 Files - mirror only 60
C:\Test\Sub1 20 Files - mirror all 20
C:\Test\Sub2 No Files
C:\Test\Sub2\Sub1 30 Files - mirror 15

How to deselect some files ?
Thank you in advance.

You can deselect files using the button "Choose Folders and Files" in the profile. You will see two folder trees. Make your selections only on one side. Choose all folders. Right-click any folder and choose "Selected files..." to choose your files.

Using this will prevent future new files from being included in the selection automatically.

In most cases, you will want to use filters instead. For example, you can exclude like this:

EXCLUSION MASKS:
\*.bin
\Sub2
\Sub2\Sub1\*.zip
\Sub2\Sub1\wedding.avi

First of all I apologize for delay in answering. I was away.
Talking of Syncovery, it is a wonderful software, I learn more and more everyday.
On top of this, superflexible Sir is a wonderful person. He is true strength of this software, because constantly explaining things to below average persons like me makes software look more robust. The easy way he explains things is marvelous.
Now, I come to his reply.
Without his help, I would have never reached to Right-click any folder and choose "Selected files..." to choose your files.
However, it raises following questions ;
1. Say there are 7 files (which by default stay blank), I select File3, FIle5. In this case do other files get deleted in target directory at nest backup ?
2. What is the fate of new files/directories created after a backup ? Do the new files/directory are included by default ?
Also, his suggestion of using masks, I have a question. There are global masks as well profile specific masks. If specific masks added do they affect only same profile or others too. I ask this because after learning this reply I think I shall use masks more than selecting files/folders.
Once again, thank you Sir, for creating a lovely software.

Hello,
many thanks.

If you de-select files, they are not normally deleted from the destination. Such a deletion would only happen if you use Exact Mirror mode and click the Configure button and choose "Remove Deselected Subfolders and Files From Destination".

2. What is the fate of new files/directories created after a backup ? Do the new files/directory are included by default ?

New files and directories are only included by default if they are in a folder which is completely selected. If you deselect some files in a folder, then new files in that folder are not selected. But new files in other folders are added automatically, if those folders do not have a file level selection.

For this reason, I usually recommend Exclusion Masks.

If you add items to the Exclusiom Masks in the profile, these will only affect the profile. The Global Exclusion Masks are on the Program Settings dialog. Those affect all profiles (unless you disable them in a profile).

superflexible Sir,
Once again I must say I would not have found such beautiful options without your help. Using "Profile Settings\Masks & Filters\Inclusion Masks - Exclusion Masks" woks perfect for me Sir.
I am sure this software will reach new high under your guidance. This forum is great strength as information bridge between creators and end users.
Thank you once again Sir.
Best of luck.
