FTP permissions retention

Still on the trial period, and this may be a make or break issue for me.

I've found Syncovery a great tool for near-instant publishing/updating of website pages over ftp. However the pages need to have the execute bit set as they do server-side includes (ie 755) but when Syncovery transfers a file to the site using ftp, its permissions are reset to 644. Yet when using an ftp client such as Filezilla, this does not happen, so I can only assume that Syncovery is doing something else. Whatever it is, it means I have to manually reset file perms every time. Not fun.

I've not found a setting that can fix this - what I missing?

Should existing, updated files retain the permissions, or should all uploaded files get 755?

Expected behaviour would be not to change any attributes unless explicitly so requested.

Syncovery does not change any attributes. It just uploads the file. Since it is then a new file, your FTP server assigns its default permissions for new files.

Maybe FileZilla takes special precautions to retain the original permissions, but that is an extra step.

Maybe you can look at the FTP commands that FileZilla uses and let me know how it manages to preserve the permissions.

I am about to add an option to set permissions for all uploaded files, for example chmod 755. So again my question, is it OK for you if all files get these permissions, or only some?

I'd prefer to be able to set permissions for particular types of file eg jpgs can get 644 while html files get 755.

Probably too late for you, but Syncovery 8 will get an integrated scripting language in a few days, allowing you to add FTP commands and even do chmod dependent on the file type.
