Syncovery opening folders unnecessarily

Postby Luc23 on Wed Oct 12, 2016 11:40 am

Hello! I have a Syncovery profile that pulls (moves) from S3 to my file server. Syncovery seems to scan folders it does not need to in order to make this move successful.
Lets say it needs to move some data to folder\subfolderA and folder\subfolderC. It also checks folder\subfolderB on my file server for some unknown reason.

I wouldn't care except for the fact that these open folders don't disappear right away on the server. Viewing Open Files within Windows 2012R2 shows hundreds of folders that Syncovery has open that it had no reason to even look at.

Just wondering if there is a setting I can enable that will have this profile ONLY check the same directory on the destination for a duplicate, instead of scanning the entire destination like it seems to be doing.

Not enough information. Please send me a log file so I can see your complete settings, and give me specific real life folder paths that I can compare against your log file.

I can confirm that when you use "Move Files To Destination" to move files down from Amazon S3, then all destination folders are scanned. The reason is that Syncovery does not support empty folders on S3 and therefore assumes that all folders always exist.

I have fixed the issue and it will be available in today's update 7.63a.

Sorry, I forgot to check the box to be notified when there was a response to this post. I'll try 7.63a and see if that helps. I really appreciate your service!

If that doesn't then I'll get back to you with logging.

It is now available (web site may still label the download as 7.63).

7.63a worked fantastically! Its no longer scanning the entire destination folder structure and it doesn't seem to keep open folder locks like it did previously. The job runs much quicker now too because it doesn't have the overhead of the destination scan on the front end.

Thanks as always!

One thing that I have noticed since the change though is the profile no longer gives me a percentage complete. It shows occasionally what folder it is on, but it used to show something like 1.2GB of 1.5GB 80% complete. Or something similar to that.

Not seeing that anymore.

What do you see instead?

I've given you 3 screenshots of a typical run. Syncovery1.jpg is where it sits for the longest, depending on how much there is to do. Then if it doesn't have much to do, it will just skip to Syncovery3.jpg which is the completed screen I am used to seeing.

In the middle on larger jobs, I can see something like is shown in Syncovery2.jpg and it will occasionally show a path to a folder it is working on, but I was unable to get a capture of that.

At no point am I getting a percentage anymore of how far along the profile is to completion anymore.

Hope this helps!
