Real-time sync ignoring time window?

Postby AnthonyB on Tue Feb 07, 2017 4:32 am

Can I just confirm that a SmartTracking profile that is using Real-time Sync will also honour the Time Window defined (with nothing enabled on Schedule tab)? The reason I ask is that I'm finding that files updated on my source are syncing immediately rather than waiting for the defined time window.

Version 7.73a
Left-side: Windows Server 2012 R2
Right-side: OneDrive
Left-to-Right sync only
Mode: SmartTracking
Real time sync enabled
Profile set to run on all days
Time Window: run only between 11:00pm and 6:00am

I expected it to only immediately sync changes made on left side between 11:00pm and 6:00am and anything that occurred outside of this time window to be 'delayed' until 11:00pm.
What I'm seeing is immediate sync and at time.

Alternatively, apologies if I've mis-configured for desired result!

Ah. I think the mistake lies with me :)

I hadn't restarted the profile.
Since doing so it is no longer auto-running outside the defined time window.

Hello,
it could be that sometimes the scheduler needs to be restarted after such changes. The profile itself is launched only when the scheduler detects changes - unless you choose "Continuous Sync", which causes the profile itself to run in an endless loop (with pauses). Continuous Sync will cause changed settings not to be adopted unless the profile is stopped, and subsequently restarted by the scheduler (or manually).

In general, Continuous Sync is only needed if you work with FTP servers and want to avoid many logins and logouts. It might have slight timing benefits for OneDrive too but in general I would recommend not using it.
