build 38 is now available which should hopefully fix this issue.

Just as follow up, the newer build of the beta solved the crashing issue. As a further follow-up on the original question on the scheduler priority, I added a "Run before.." to my jobs that sets the priority of the scheduler to "idle." With the new version and that tweak, the backup runs so smoothly and unnoticed that I've found myself checking the logs just to confirm it's working. (Of course, it is. )
