The best way to copy a back end database file?

Postby Wolters on Tue Jul 06, 2010 2:16 am

Hi,

On one desktop we are currently running a back end of an Access database (Office 2010). This back end is now and then modified from a couple of users connecting to this back end from their laptops over our LAN. We now want to make a backup copy of this back end database file, whenever it has changed, BUT doing this in a way so that NOT interfering with users using the back end file, and also in a way so that the copy of the database can be used in case of disaster with the original database back end file.

What advanced settings would be optimal in this case?

The back end database file is usually only accessed now and then by two or three people. That is, the database file is not constantly modified 24/7, but maybe once or twice a day, and in short periods of times, i.e. one or two hours contiunous use.

Regards,

Dag

Hello,

for databases it's best to use the following setting on the File Access tab sheet:

Volume Shadowing: Use For All Files

In addition, the program must be running under an Administrator account. On Vista or Windows 7, if you use the scheduler, it must be installed as a service. If you launch the job manually, you have to start the program by right-clicking its icon and choosing "Run As Administrator".
