Problems with sync to Network drive (FAT)

Postby earnric on Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:01 am

Thanks for the free trial!

I've been trying to get SFS to work with my network attached FAT drive ... it seems to work fine sometimes, but others, it hangs or doesn't sync files.

Here's what I have:

Left Side: /Users/earnric/Documents/RLD
Right Side: /Volumes/PUBLIC/Rick/RLD

I usually mount the Volume "PUBLIC" via the Finder (samba -- smb://192.168.1.117)... I'm using Smart Tracking with Copy Left, Copy Right turned on... I also have used the CONFIGURE button to tell SFS to DELETE FILES when I delete a file from one location: this seems to work sometimes, but not others. For instance, this morning -- after deleting a couple files on the Mac side, I watched SFS run in background scheduler mode and got the "missing confirmation" for deleting the files!! -- EVEN THOUGH I'VE ANSWERED "YES" TO CONFIRM DELETIONS IN THE PROFILE.

Also, I tried "Mount Network Drives..." on the Jobs selection in the profile... That seems to create a new "PUBLIC-#" mount point EACH time the profile is run (in the background).

Anyway -- I'm looking for a good sync tool ... and yours appears to be a good candidate... If we can solve these problems and get it to reliably sync my files to a Network Drive!

THanks,

Rick

Hello,
first please make sure you have the latest version from our web site. As of today, it's v4.88a.

To actually make deletions happen in Unattended Mode, there are additional safety checkboxes that need to be selected. These are on the Safety category, tab sheet "Unattended Mode". To allow the deletions, make sure that the top four checkboxes are checked and the last checkbox is unchecked.

Please note that it is recommended to use a "Folder for deleted files" where the program moves files rather than deleting them permanently. This can be specified on the SmartTracking "Configure" dialog.

The "Mount Network Drives" just asks MacOS to mount the drive, and the mount point is chosen by MacOS. Maybe you should make sure that the option "Disconnect after profile has finished" is not selected.

If you don't use the "Mount Network Drives" feature, you can use the following syntax to ensure that the correct path is used even if the mount point changes. Rather than
/Volumes/PUBLIC/Rick/RLD
you can type
PUBLIC:/Rick/RLD

This makes the program look for any volume named "PUBLIC".
