Encrypted ZIP issue - *.part & MD5.TXT

Hi all,

I have an issue copying files to online storage

• - over a WebDAV connection
• - using SFFS V5 and client side encryption (zip)

About 10% of 5,000 files SFFS copied resulted in a "right side" zip containing two files

• <filename>_offs_0.part
• MD5.TXT

instead of the correct one:

• <filename>

Looks like something interrupted building the zip; this may happen, connections aren't 100% stable.

What really worries me is that (afaik) SFFS silently goes over that: no pop-up, no error message in the logs. I have to check my backup myself after SFFS run.

Anybody out there who has experienced s.th. similar?

This is intended. It is how the Synthetic Backup works. When you combine Partial File Updating & Zipping, this is how the parts are backed up. You can uncheck Versioning->Synthetic Backup or Partial File Updating.

You can restore and reassemble these files with the Restore Wizard.

Can I also restore the files securely without using SFFS (I use my backup for 24/7 read-only web access to my data from arbitrary locations & computers) - i.e. is the "right side zip" layout documented somewhere?

Hi,

realistically, the only way to restore the synthetic files is with SFFS. But the program is always available! I don't see that as a disadvantage. If you're on a computer where you don't have it, just download and install it.

The restore process could theoretically be done manually if you have a tool that can extract and copy specified byte ranges, but it is very difficult. The filenames are self explanatory, i.e. each filename contains the position in the final file where the bytes belong.
