Profile constantly accesses NAS

Postby RadicalDad on Thu Apr 27, 2017 1:22 am

I use Syncovery to back up to a NAS. Each user has several nearly-identical profiles to back up documents, photos, music, etc. Tonight I noticed that one profile, photos, on just one machine, is constantly accessing the NAS. The NAS connection log shows me that the backup destination (on the NAS) for this profile is being accessed every 20 seconds. Disabling the profile (or stopping the scheduler) stops the continuous access. The photos profile log files show that the profile is running several times a day for no reason (nothing to be done), but certainly not every 20 seconds. Our profiles are set to sync one way, exact mirror mode, with real time sync enabled. Any idea why this one profile is acting up?

A few things occur to me, but none really explain this behavior. We just replaced the NAS with a newer model - same manufacturer but a newer OS. Could be this was a problem before but I didn't see it with the older style logs. Then again, the old NAS would hibernate correctly, as would the new NAS until I noticed a few days ago it wasn't hibernating at all. I run Adobe Creative Cloud on the machine in question, and it just had an update. Perhaps the background process that updates the photo catalogs is running amok since the update, but then I'd expect to see real activity, instead of "nothing to be done," in the Syncovery profile log results. Again, note that disabling the profile stops the continuous access to the NAS.

Thoughts on how to fix this? I'd like my NAS to go back to hibernating, not to mention filling my NAS logs with useless drivel to sort through if a real problem occurs. Thanks.

Update: Stopping the scheduler is the only way to stop the unnecessary access to the NAS. Even with all profiles disabled I see NAS access unless the scheduler is stopped.

What's up with this behavior? Haven't seen it before, and it only happens on one PC.

Try deleting and recreating the profile. I also had a weird issue where I tested out continuous and turned it off, but it still treated it as continuous. I tried everything to stop it but eventually had to recreate the profile.

Real-Time Sync checks if the folders are accessible every 20 seconds. Maybe you don't really need that for Photos and you can just switch to a regular run every X hours.
