Relation between BC and SFFS & registration details

Postby DaF on Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:35 am

I'm a user of SFFS for Mac and think that this is by far the best backup/sync tool available.

There are a few things, however, which I don't understand about this forum or I am having issues with.

I don't think that the forum is well linked from the SFFS website. The link under documentation included an at first sight unfamiliar/strange domain name which lead me to the assumption that it's not the official forum but a 3rd party forum which also supports SFFS. In a way, I'm right as this forum belongs to a different company and isn't used by them at all. Huh?
I don't understand the relation between BC and SFFS. It seems to be strange that I have to give that company all my details although I don't have a business relationship with them but with Tobias' company.
Also having to enter my address and phone number seems to be completely irrelevant for getting support.

Does anyone else share my concerns?

We are partners and share the forum. Many people in our forum ask the same questions as of SuperFlexible's users. Many people can benefit from the answers of both user bases. Our software is a branded version of the same download that all SuperFlexible users use today. Therefore if there is a problem with their software it may be a similar issue that you would be having. We all benefit by having more questions answered. Backup Creations has a lot of experience with the software and have network engineers that have a lot of experience with setting up custom solutions for users. Many times there some advanced questions that are outside the scope of Superflexible, such as setting up vpn, sftp server, ftp, etc. Many times one of our techs will be able to help out by answering some of those questions that will benefit the Superflexible users as well. This forum is new and growing. In the future we hope to see more users and be able to help more people.

Many of the questions you have are valid. In order to make anyone feel at ease about the shared forum, we have instructed the users to put in ########### in place of the phone number and any other fields you do not wish to fill in, when you are looking for support. It says this in the top of the registration page. We at Backup Creations can reassure you that no information has or will EVER be used for marketing to other companies or be sold or given to anyone but to SuperFlexible.

I hope this helps. Take care.

Thanks for your explanation. It makes more sense to me now. I have to admit that I didn't quite read the top section of the registration form.

Tobias, perhaps you could add some background to the FAQ on your website.

Past experience has left me unable to believe it whenever someone assures me that private information will "never be used for marketing purposes". I've caught organizations violating privacy policies many times. They mean nothing, since they are all "subject to change without notice".

I missed the blurb regarding "####" when I registered. I can't remember what information I provided, but I'd like it wiped out now, if that's possible without removing my user ID entirely (and, of course, it is possible, at least in the strict sense of the term).

When I signed up, I kept getting text boxes with red highlights and those popup messages telling me to enter valid information. I did not notice the blurb up top that says "If there are any fields you wish not to submit data to, please enter in the required number of ##### symbols." And in fact, now that I've read it, I don't find it particularly obvious what "the required number of ##### symbols" is. I guess a user is expected to use trial-and-error on each field to find out.

The ##### is just a suggestion for anyone who may not want to submit info they feel is in appropriate. We were not trying to deseeve you. The popups are there for people who want to add real info. As for the amount of ##### signs, all of he fields that have a requirement do tell you so. I will check this and if it is not correct I will have this corrected.

We are very sorry for any inconvience this may have caused. I have already went into your account and took out your phone number and address info. You can feel free to remove any info that you would like @ http://www.backupcreations.com/user_area/account/ while you are logged in.

I know many companies do violate peoples trust doing these sorts of things but I can assure you that we will never do this. If there is something else you would like removed and can't seem to do it, feel free to email me using the little mail icon next to my name and I will be happy to help you remove this. Take care.
