restore wizard

Postby webrod on Thu Dec 29, 2011 4:58 am

Hi,

I am not able to use it based on versioning+keep multiple backup versions.

My need is:
+ synch only updated files
+ keep 5 older versions of the files
+ being able to restore the files as they were at a specific datetime
+ only restore files that are different

I did a test.
+ 10:00AM => created 2 folders, source, and destination
+ 10:01AM => added 2 files in source
+ 10:05AM => ran the synch process so it sync from source to destination
+ 10:07 AM => updated one file in the source
+ 10:08 AM => ran the synch process. Can see now a OLDER folder with one version (in destination folder)
+ 10:09 AM => updated the same file in the source
+ 10:10 AM => ran the synch process. OLDER folder with 2 versions

now let's say I want to restore my file as it was at 10:01AM, so the original file, not the latest.
Of course I want to automate this, in the real life, my source folder would have thousands of files, and I have no idea which file I have updated.
No way I have to select manually the file (if possible)

So I did:
+ run the "restore wizard"
+ filter tab->restore file versions from an earlier date and time => 10:02 AM

Issue 1: I can see all the files in the synch processing window
I want to see only the files which have been updated since this date. So only one file, no the 2 files (one has not been updated). Otherwsise I have to restore everything :-(

Issue 2: the file that has been updated will be restored to the latest version!!! It does not take into account the date I have selected. Even if I select one year back, I can see all the files

Issue 3: I do not have the option when I right click, to select an older verison

Issue 4: I really do not liuke that the date is added in the filename when they are copied. I thought the "filename enconding" would only apply to files in the "older" folders..

Issue 5: I am in France, the date added in the file name is -1 hour (it says 09:AM). Even when I check "Files backed up with V4 used UTC/GMT..."

I do not see the benefit of this feature if I have to select manually the files, and if it gets the latest version (obviously no use of the "older" folder).
What Did I do wrong?

Info:
+ both folders are on the same hard dish/windows seven
+ versioning setting:
- keep mutiple backup version (5)
- file name encoding
- "Files backed up with V4 used UTC/GMT..." (tested checked and unchecked)

thanks

ok I have just found that most of the issues are linked to a bug.

to reproduce:
1) configure a new job and DO NOT select "file name encoding" in versioning tab
2) select "move into folder OLDER"
3) run the JOB
4) now update the job to set "filename encoding" (because you changed your mind)
now the problems comes :-)
the soft still use the OLDER folder concept and mix it with the filename encoding....
Previous versions are moved in OLDER folder while it looks like they shall be in the same folder....

So to fix this, you have to create from scratch a new job and it fixes the issues for the restore wizard.
It selects the previous versions of the files (not the latest one) you now have the otpion to select an alternat verison by righ clicking (which I don't want by the way).

Quite good.

last but not least issue.
It shows ALL the files!!
I want to restore only the one that have changed. So I want to see only those files, not all.
Otherwise it would take age for no benefit

Can you help?

thanks

Hello,

yes, in version 5 the Restore Wizard can only see encoded files, not files in the "Older" folder. In version 6, it can see both.

On the Sync Preview in the top left corner, you can choose which files to show.

Hello,
Please excuse my English, I am a french user.

I have the same issue : it seems that option "restore file version from an earlier date" does not filter anything" when trying to restore a standard copying profile with versioning on syncovery : neither old version files nor old deleted files. Whatever is the selected date, it preview the same files to restore.

Say I have created the file FILE1 on January then backup and deleted it on mars then backup. Whatever the early date I choose (Year before, january, february, mars, april, ... or even today date It is offering me to restore the file FILE1. However the year before that file did not exists ad has not to be restore !

Can you help me ?
Thank you

The target date for restore only helps choose a specific file version. It will not filter any files.

The deletion date is not remembered in Syncovery backups, so deleted files cannot be filtered.

You could filter other files by date by using an additional Modified Date filter.
