Shadow copy

Postby M_Meyer on Wed Nov 03, 2010 1:59 am

I have an application that uses a big database file.
When synching that file via internal NAS, it takes some time.
When opening the application during that time, I get an error message "file in use".
So I would like to use a shadow copy for transfer and replace the real file only when transfer is finished.
I thought I could set this up via the volume shadow copy options, but had no success until now.

What settings are right to use a shadow copy (on both sides; I use a bidir sync)?

Shadow copies can only be used for source files, not for destination. They can't be used on a NAS either.

Okay, so what settings do I have to use to have a shadow copy of the source file so that it is not locked during the copy?

On File Access, you can choose Volume Shadowing: "Use For All". Since Windows Vista, the program must be run "As Administrator" or UAC must be turned off for this to work. The scheduler must be installed as a service.
