Hello,
it depends on what you want to use the Remote Service for. The Remote Service has several capabilities:
- speed up building the file listing
- unzip incoming ZIP Packages
- generate MD5 checksums for partial file updating
See
http://www.superflexible.com/remoteservice.htmWhich of these features are you interested in? Note that for the normal online backup, you do not need the Remote Service at all. Everything can be done from the clients.
The best setup for online backup is to install the main software on the clients. Then the program can zip the files and the compression can save bandwidth. The files can stay in zipped form on the server.
If the synchronizer is running on the server (=destination), then the files are transferred without compression or encryption over the line.
When using FTP, you don't need the Remote Service to speed up building the file listing because FTP already support a recursive listing command (LIST -alR), which you can select on the second tab sheet of the Internet/FTP dialog.
