SyncoveryVSS.exe

Postby M_Meyer on Thu Jan 10, 2013 2:18 am

Hello,
I have a service called SyncoveryVSS.exe on my system that is always running.
I think it is used for volume shadow copy.
Is this right?
It seems to be installed on every Syncovery install/update.
It seems to be started on every system start.

Do I need it all the time or only when Syncovery is running?
Do I need it even if I don't use volume shadow copy in Syncovery?

Hello,

that's all correct. You don't need it unless you want to use volume shadowing. The newest English installer makes this item optional, too.

But it does not use any system resources when it's idle.

Thanks for the reply.
If I stop the service, will it be automatically restarted if a Syncovery job uses shadow copy?

No.

But it is also not needed if the Syncovery scheduler itself runs as a service, or when you use the GUI it can do volume shadowing on its own if it is started by right-clicking the icon and choosing "Run As Administrator".

The SyncoveryVSS.exe service is only needed to bypass UAC :D
