The 'Standard Copying' Mode

Postby jardokraka on Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:46 am

hello,

i cannot seem to manage to configure the mode the way i want to. i want SFFS to simply copy all new files from the server to my local computer. it kind of does that, but when i delete a file locally, it will redownload from the server.

what i'm trying to accomplish is:

1) download all files from remote to local (ok);

2) as soon as there's a new file on the remote server, download it (ok);

3) don't check my local dir for moved or deleted files, just download whatever is new on the remote server, disregard the rest (fail, it will re-download the file if i delete it locally but it still exists on the server).

i examined all settings and options carefully, but don't seem to find the right one to do what i need. any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

(running SFFS 4.91)

This is a very unusual requirement for a synchronization software, but there is a way to do it. You need to use the SmartTracking mode and click the Configure button to tell it what to do. For Deleted Files, you can keep the default "Ignore" setting.

We have a similar requirement, but there is a little wrinkle.

On the remote (left) side daily incremental files are being generated and we want those copied to the right side, but the retention on the left and right is different so it is very common for files that were successfully copied to the right side will get folded into a full file and then deleted.

We only want the file copied once from left to right and then when the file is deleted on the right side we want it to be ignored.

I believe the correct settings would be:

Copy left to right (only)
Mode: Smart Tracking
Detection of moved files: Off
Deleted files: Ignore
Conflicting files: Do Nothing/Label and add "$" to end of name

Does this sound correct?

Thanks for any input on this question and thanks for a very powerful file sync tool.

Yes that should work. When a file is new or modified, it will be copied, but if it is deleted, it will be ignored as long as it's not modified again.
