Version pre5 (build 34) Google docs support?

I purchased SuperFlexible specifically to allow me to use my Google Docs account for storing my online backups. I already have an 80GB Google Docs account. However when I try to use it in the pre-release of v5, I always get a 403 access error and every upload fails.

According to your website, you state that a Google Premium account is needed to use third party software to upload files. I do not believe this is true as I am able to upload files to the same google account via the current version of Gladinet (one of your competitors).

Heres the log I get when I try:

Its the same result no matter what file I try. All files sent via SuperFlexible to Google Docs fail. Can you please check this again as I am sure this should work for free Google accounts.

Hello,

this is normal. Only Google Apps Premier customers can upload "any file" with external tools like our synchronizer. The standard free Google Docs account allows to upload only files that are converted to native Google Docs documents, spreadsheets, or presentations.

You can only upload text files, spreadsheets, and presentations and you must choose the appropriate conversion options on the Internet dialog in Super Flexible File Synchronizer.

You can try by avoiding the zip feature in Superflexible.

At the end of the following page, you will find the official statement that Google Apps Premier customers can use the Doc List API for "any file". Others cannot:

I suppose Gladinet had your files converted, and surely it did not zip them. Please uncheck any zipping features in Superflexible and make sure you choose the conversions on the Internet dialog.

As you can see I am testing with an mp3 which are not supported as google docs types (but are supported as "any files".

Gladinet moved a whole album of mp3 files to the same google account without complaint.

I realise Google say the API access ONLY for premier accounts but I do not believe this is true as Gladinet have it working and I have used the java bulk upload file tool (that uses the same API) successfully before.

I am trying to upload 50+ GB of zip files as backup to Google docs and an not interested in converting them. I can successfully upload them individually via the web page but want to automate the process with SFFS.

Hi,

maybe Gladinet uses a different method. We use the Docs List API and it doesn't support it. I'm sure the limitation will be lifted over time. The official release of version 5 is planned for July 1st. Maybe you can try it again then.

I am in the same situation: I want to backup my data to Google Docs, but I am not able to do that via SFFS, because of this limitation. I tried to use Gladinet too, but it is still too buggy. I have installed SFFS just one hour ago, but it looks totally good, so I want to resolve this problem, before I buy it

I have a Google Apps Premier Account now for 30-day Trial, but it is not cheap and I do not need it anyway, except this. With GA Premier it works...

Google has not lifted the limitation so far. I believe Gladinet are using a workaround whereby they are simulating browser clicks rather than using the official API for uploads. But we are not going to implement that.

There is better storage for backups anyway, such as Amazon S3 and Microsoft Azure.

Google Docs is suitable for docs, not for backup.

I understand. May be this is the reason for bugs - it is just a workaround.

The others are pretty expensive. Because Google Apps storage is very expensive too, I have a lot of thinking before I decide

I think Amazon S3 is very cheap. I have been using it for many years and my monthly bill is about $1.50. It depends on how much data you store there. If you store 50GB it is $5 per month (cheapest storage type) plus transfers. Transfer is around $0.10 per GB too.
